MSEE Degree Information and Chart

All Master of Science degrees require a minimum of 30 semester credits. There are currently two plans available to MSEE students; Plan A thesis option and Plan C coursework only option.

The M.S. degree must be completed within seven years from the date of the oldest coursework on the degree program, including any transfer credits. A petition may be submitted to the Graduate School to extend this time limit. The Electrical Engineering Program and the Graduate School are both quite strict about extending this limit. Petitions for a second extension are almost never granted.

Master’s students must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0.

Students interested in continuing on to the PhD program must pass the PhD Preliminary Written Examination by the end of their second academic year in residence in the Graduate School (however, we encourage students to take the exam as early in their career as possible).  The Preliminary Written exam is typically held in November and in April. You have two chances to pass the exam.
